Pretend Play: Children in Control of a Shifting Narrative

Imaginative play is an important part of childhood that provides insight not only into a child’s ability to use language, but ultimately their understandings the world more broadly. Through play, children control story as they shape emerging narrative through words, gestures, movement, and spaces. In this paper we deconstruct single instance imaginative captured in home corner preschool classroom. The unscripted dialogue creates shared compelling evident texts created ongoing complex interactions. Microanalysis novel scenarios create, resources select for developing ways communicate. We focus on discourse, subjectivity, power analyse scenario. cultural linguistic demonstrated by group four-year-old understanding interpretation activities conducive also social identities.
